About

Ka Pā Hula ʻO Kawailehua (Hula From the Heart) is a traditional Hawaiian Dance Studio featuring the dances of the Hawaiian Islands and also offers beginner through advanced dance lessons for children and adults.

Our mission is to provide professional and educational dance instruction to individuals in and for our community and to instill aloha and an appreciation for the art of hula while inspiring self- confidence and discipline in a safe, high-quality studio environment. We believe dancers should hula from the heart.

Our Values

  • Akahai = kindness
  • Lokahi = unity
  • Oluʻolu = pleasing
  • Haʻahaʻa = humble
  • Ahonui = patience
  • Do Your Best
  • Integrity
  • Showmanship

Students learn multiple dances throughout the year in both the modern (ʻauana) and traditional (kahiko) styles of hula. They learn to oli (chant) in ʻōlelo hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language).  Our students also learn to make their own costumes and implements such as the ʻiliʻili (stones), ʻuliʻuli (feathered gourd rattle), ipu (percussion instrument made from gourds), and pūʻili (split bamboo sticks)  – these are used as part of the dances. Being a part of a hālau hula (hula school) means not only learning to dance the hula but to appreciate all aspects of Hawaiian culture. We perform at multiple events around the community throughout the year and host an annual recital to showcase everything we’ve been learning with our friends and family!

Some benefits of joining a hālau:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the history, music, steps, and techniques of hula
  • Increase knowledge in cultural education
  • Improve posture, coordination and dexterity
  • Build self-esteem and confidence
  • Exercise in a safe environment
  • Make new friends!

Come join us for a total Hawaiian hula experience!
